Unicorn donates £3,000 to Permaculture Institute El Slavador

Following a talk by Karen Inwood from IPES at a Manchester Permaculture Network event last year, Debbie Clark from Unicorn visited the project in El Salvador, and now Unicorn has donated £3,000!

Unicorn Grocery is Manchester's vegan-organic whole food co-operative based in Chorlton.

Debbie was inspired by the talk by Karen last summer, and was encouraged to visit IPES (Permaculture Institute of El Salvador) as part of her tour as result. She was so impressed by what she saw that she persuaded Unicorn this February, to donate £3,000 to the project. The donation was channeled through the British Permaculture Association, which has been working in partnership with IPES since its inception in 2002.

As an ethical workers co-operative, Unicorn has a policy of investing a percentage of its profits into supporting projects like IPES. As an individual that has been shopping at Unicorn for 10 years, and as a trustee of the Permaculture Association, and as the person that organised the event where Karen and Debbie met, I am extremely pleased with this outcome! I think it is an excellent example of positive networking, and the power of co-operation.
