Count Drax Poetry

Follow the links below for samples of poetry by me. More is to follow in the future, as I record and upload it. I am also hoping to make some film-poems in 2009, all being well. (If you are a film maker, and think that you might be able to help me with this project, then please get in touch.)

2008 was an interesting year for me, having performed at some memorable locations, including:

Stop Economic Growth - reform the monetary system

We live on a finite planet with finite resources, and it is obvious that there are limits to growth - limits to the rate at which the global economy can grow, and consume the world's resources. We live in an era of unparalleled economic growth, and nobody seems to be doing anything to stop it, and the Earth is being eaten alive. To save the Earth, we must stop economic growth. To do this monetary reform is desperately needed, and the video and web links in this article will tell you why.

Wake Up, Freak Out - then Get a Grip, is an excellent animation which shows how untethered economic growth and consumption, are pushing the Earth dangerously close to tipping point - beyond which climate change will be devastating and unstoppable.

Can Britain Feed Itself?

BBC Radio 4's Food Programme recently broadcasted an excellent programme called Can Britain become self-sufficient? The programme explores the changing global food environment, and the role of the supermarket economy, verses the prospect of a healthy, local food economy. It asked the questions, "Should Britain Feed Itself?", and Can Britain Feed Itself?" As if in answer to the BBC's inquiry, Unicorn Grocery in Chorlton has recently purchased 21 acres of horticulture land near Warrington, on which to grow its own fruit and vegetables.

Grow, Cook, Eat, at Glebelands Market Garden

A short video clip from when East Salford project Grow Cook Eat visited Glebelands market garden in Sale, to pick up tips for their 'urban guerilla' gardening plans to transform the alleyways of Salford. According to the Soil Association, Glebelands is the UK's only peri-urban (on the edge of the city) organic market garden, which is a very worrying statistic. The video features Lesley Bryson, who co-ordinates Glebelands, and Kevin Coakley from St. Sebastians Community Centre in Salford.
